Peace Tiles

The Global Peace Tiles Project

What if you could create and exchange works of art that could also be combined to produce large murals for public exhibition? That is the aim of the Global Peace Tiles project.

VACA Peace Tiles exhibition, South Africa from PeaceTiles.netPeace Tiles is a process, a product, and a community. The process of creating Peace Tiles in groups is a simple, structured workshop that invites participants to tell their story through collage.

The product is an intimate, vibrant mixed media work on 8″ x 8″ wood panel that can be used in many ways: they can be joined together with wire or string into quilt-like sculptures, hung individually or in a group, used as a medium of exchange, shared as unique gifts, or kept for personal use – and more!

As a community, the Peace Tiles network is a space for learning and exchange. By visiting www.peacetiles.net anyone can register to share their tile, meet others who are running workshops, and learn more ways that the arts can be integrated into education and training activities. Check out how two communities – one in South Africa and the other in British Columbia, Canada used Peace Tiles to strengthen bonds of connection!

So please, come on over and experience the Peace Tiles process! Since it began in 2005, the Peace Tiles process has engaged literally thousands of children in more than 20 countries on 4 continents. Their tiles have been exhibited at more than a dozen venues, from the lobby of office buildings to community arts centers and major galleries. Come have a look – the site is in beta, but hey – it works!
